It’s a scorcher in the northwestern corner of the Greater Phoenix Area. The preflight walkaround was pretty miserable under the Arizona sun, so you can’t wait to get the air conditioner running for a few minutes during taxi, then again after climbout. You plan to depart on Runway 7R using the Deer Valley Three Departure for obstacle avoidance.

Your Cessna Turbo 182T has a Lycoming TIO-540-AK1A engine with an automatic exhaust wastegate. This means that it adjusts the flow of exhaust gas through the turbo so that the engine receives near-sea-level pressure air for combustion, allowing it to deliver much more power despite operating in thinner air. In other words, it’s turbonormalized.

That’s all well and good, but do you go? If so, do you modify an otherwise normal takeoff procedure? Here are some materials that might help you decide how or if to depart.
